Dueñas and Cardoniga ace Accounting Quiz Bowl
Loralaine Duenas and Nicole Cardoniga of the BS Accounting Technology (BSAcT) program bagged the first place in the Accounting Quiz Bowl held last January 31 at the Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall.
Placing second were Maria Paulina Cabral and Ma. Micah Paje of the BSA program and Anjonette Isabel Pangilinan and Mara Cabanero, also from the BSA program.
Questions came from Fundamentals of Accounting 1 and Fundamentals of Accounting 2 subjects.
Each section of the BSA and BSAcT programs had four representatives who have outstanding skills and knowledge in accounting. During the contest proper, they were grouped in pairs. The activity aims to not only enhance each member’s knowledge and skills in accounting but also to be able to develop trust, goodwill and camaraderie among each other.
The quiz bowl had three main rounds: the easy round, moderate round, and difficult round. For the easy round, the contestants were given thirty seconds to answer the questions and a point was award-ed for each correct answer.
For the moderate round, contestants were given a minute and a half to answer the questions and three (3) points were awarded for each correct answer. For the difficult round, contestants were given two minutes to answer the ques-tions and five (5) points were awarded for each correct answer.
Then third year students, who were the hosts of the event, add-ed an additional bonus round for trivia questions about other fields such as sports, show business and the like.

JPIA holds Annual Ledesma Cup
As part of the organization week of JPIA, the 8th Ledesma Cup was conducted last February 1 and 2 at Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall, St. Scholastica's College Manila.
Ledesma Cup, which started in SY 2004-2005, is an annual inter-school Accountancy quiz bee among the bona fide local chapter members of the National Federation of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA)-National Capital Region Council (NCRC). This aims to promote camaraderie among the mem-bers of NFJPIA-NCRC and to pursue academic excellence and astounding education by engaging participants in a healthy competition.
Contest proper:
On the first day, levels 1 and 2 were observed. Level 1 was about Business Law and Taxation. Eleven schools of the NFJPIA-NCRC par-ticipated in the said level. Professors Anna Maria Ramirez and Atty. Mary Ann Sagana served as the judges. In Level 2, Theory of Accounts and Practical Account-ing 1, 13 schools competed. The invited judge was Mr. Reinier Cunanan. Levels 3 & 4 were held on the second day. Level 3 (Auditing Theory and Auditing Problems) were observed in the morning, in which eight schools participated. Professor Aquilino D. Soriano Jr. was the invited judge. Ten schools competed in Level 4 (Practical Accounting 2 and Management Advisory Services), wherein Professor William Bautista served as the judge.
Ledesma Cup is organized and held during JPIA’s organization week as a sign of gratitude to the Dean of School of Accountancy, Ester F. Ledesma

SCHOLASTICAN FORUM:
For Voicing Out Student Concerns
JPIA organized a Scholastican Forum, held on December 5, 2011 at Function Room A, St. Cecilia’s Building. This event was exclusively participated by the students of Accountancy and Accounting Technology programs.
The School of Accountancy chairperson, Ms. Cindy Ortiz, re-oriented the BS Accountancy and BS Accounting Technology students about the guidelines and regulations of the School of Accountancy. Students were also reminded to maintain good behavior at all times and keep in mind Benedictine values such as Ora et Labora, humility, service, integrity, compassion and obedience.
Towards the end of the program, an open forum was held. Students were given a chance to ask questions and address their concerns and complaints.
